-PART ONE- Miani and Mishina's Argument
Miani and Mishina were twin girls, living in a small village in the Earth Kingdom. Neither girls had bending ability and came from a decently wealthy family. They had been raised in a calm household, until their father decided he didn’t want to be with them anymore, and a reoccurring argument began to climax.
"What are you talking about, Papa!?" Miani said to her angry father one night. Mishina watched meekly from the windowsill as her twin sister tried to talk some sense into her father. She turned, and looked out the window. It’s a full moon out tonight, Mishina thought to herself. She turned back to the argument that was rapidly peaking in her living room.
Mishina looked to the hallway across the room, past her sister and father. Her mother had been watching the argument between Papa and Miani for quite some time now, and Mishina had watched her face change from worry to anger. Mishina closed the curtains on the window and moved to her sister’s side, cautiously watching her mother in the hallway. Mama walked into the light, her face looked angrier than it had ever looked before. She turned her gaze from Mishina to Papa, and glared.
Miani realized that her mother had walked in, and could feel the angry aura around her. She quieted herself and backed from her father silently, watching her sister’s feet do the same. Mama pulled Papa aside.
“You need to stop yelling at these girls all the time!” Mama yelled at Papa. She glared angrily into Papa’s eyes as Papa gathered himself. Miani looked over at her sister and saw that her eyes were full of worry.
“Don’t worry about them Mishina, I’m sure that Mama will take care of it,” Miani said, trying to comfort her sister. Mishina looked at Miani with tears welling up in her eyes.
“I don’t know about it this time, Miani,” Mishina said timidly, almost to a cry. Miani saw a single tear run down Mishina’s cheek, and sat her down on the couch behind her.
She took her handkerchief out of her pocket and put it in Mishina’s hand. “I think Mama will fix it again. Mishina, Mama knows how to calm Papa, she’ll take care of it!” she said, personally hoping that her trust in Mama’s ability to calm Papa would not fail her at this moment. Miani kept an ear open to Mama’s tone in the back of the room.
Mishina worried more about her parents. For some reason she knew this outburst wasn’t going to end as quietly as it looked like it was going to. She just wanted to hug her Papa and have her Mama tell her it was ok, but she knew she wasn’t going to get that from Papa tonight.
“Fine then! If you don’t care about our daughters and their well-being, their education, or their LIVES, GET OUT!” Mama yelled. Papa huffed, stormed past her, and came out with some of his things, grabbing his coat and walking out, slamming the door behind him. Miani gasped, realizing what had just happened and looked back at her sister, who was at this point completely in tears. She turned to her mama after wrapping a blanket around her sister.
“Mama,” Miani said, standing in front of her mother, “what… what happened?”
Her mother didn’t move. She was in complete shock; tears rolled down her cheeks. “Mama?” Miani called to her mother, taking her out of her trance.
Mama looked up at her daughter in front of her. “Miani, I’m so sorry you and Mishina had to see any of that… take your sister to your room, and go to bed, hopefully everything will be worked out in the morning. I’m going to get your papa. I have a pretty good idea of where he could be…” she sighed, and with that, walked out the front door.

Mishina woke the next morning to the snoring of her sleeping sister in the bed across the room. She got up, put on her day clothes, and went into the kitchen. “Mama, did you find papa last night?” she said meekly, with a worried look to her face and a glimmer of hope in her eyes. Her mother nodded her head no.
“I couldn’t find him anywhere, Mishina,” she said. Miani walked into the room, hearing what her mother had just said to her sister, and angrily slammed her fist down on the table.
“You told me that you were going to bring Papa back! YOU LIED TO ME!” Miani said angrily. Her mother looked up from her morning dishes. “I DID THE BEST I COULD MIANI, IM NOT PERFECT!” she shouted at her angry daughter. Mishina ran out of the room to cry.
“It’s not fair! It’s just not fair!” Mishina said to herself. “Why is my family always the one in turmoil…?” She lay down on her bed, and cried herself into a nap. She woke a few hours later to the sound of her sister’s voice calling her name.
“Get up, Mishina, we’re leaving! Mama doesn’t care about us either,” Miani said, pulling her sister out of bed, fixing her loose hair, and grabbing some clothes and food portions for each of them. Exhausted, Mishina rubbed her eyes and realized that her sister had pulled her out the door to the backyard, and that if she turned around their parents’ house was barely visible. “Miani, what are you doing?! We can’t just leave our house!” Mishina tried to talk some sense into her upset sister. “We can make it much better on our own!” Miani said, still dragging her sister deeper and deeper in the woods to the east.
Miani dragged her sister deep into one of the forests of the Earth Kingdom, and wanting to go home, Mishina got angrier and angrier with her sister as they kept going farther and farther from home. “Miani, stop! I don’t want to leave home!” Mishina said, finally cracking. Miani turned to her sister in amazement.
Miani paused for a moment, just standing in the woods, and stared at her sister. Mishina realized what she had done, and blushed at her foolish actions. Miani let go of her sister, handed Mishina her portions of food and clothes. “M-Miani, I didn’t mean that!” Mishina tried to talk some sense into her sister.
Miani stopped for a second. “No, its ok. It’s probably better if we go our own ways anyway.” Miani started to walk away with her things.
Mishina didn’t know what to think. “I can’t just let her go off on her own, but I won’t let her boss me around anymore either…” she thought to herself. “Fine then! If you don’t think you need me, then I don’t think I need you either!” Mishina yelled to her sister and started her way south.
Neither girl knew where exactly they were going to make a shelter or a living for themselves. In fact, neither of them knew where they were going at all. All they knew was that they were ready to not be “conjoined” anymore, and that they no longer needed their parents help.
